Bozeman Penthouse Modern
This rooftop penthouse, perched atop one of the most iconic buildings of downtown Bozeman’s skyline, presented its new owners with the perfect opportunity to rehabilitate a piece of the city’s rich history.
The original brick Romanesque-style building was designed by architect George Hancock in 1891 as part of Bozeman’s bid to become Montana’s capital city. The two-bedroom penthouse itself was a later addition designed by architect Fred Willson, whose work during the mid-1900s shaped many of Bozeman’s most recognizable architectural landmarks. The new owners’ directive was to bring the space into the twenty first century while respecting its historic character.
Refined interiors blend modern materials with a touch of rustic flair, balancing black steel with warm wood, leaving original structural brick artfully exposed to reveal its story. A large sliding glass door opens to a rooftop patio, where a steel and wood pergola frames the Bridger Range to the north. Up a winding steel spiral stair is an upper patio with panoramic views across Bozeman’s skyline and beyond to a horizon surrounded by mountains.
